The aim of this summer school is to promote interdisciplinary methodological thinking in the area of Girls Studies. It brings together researchers and practitioners in the area of girl work and artists who are interested in provoking critical feminist discussion. The working methods of the summer school are based on dialogue between the diverse group of participants.
The summer school is organized by the Finnish Network for Girls Studies and The Finnish Youth Research Society in co-operation with FlickForsk! The Nordic Network for Girlhood Studies. The confirmed keynote speakers are Associate Professor Ulrika Dahl (Gender Studies, Södertörn University), Professor Elina Oinas (Sociology, Swedish School of Social Science) and feminist scholar and artist Saara Särmä (University of Tampere). The complete list of speakers will be announced in May.
The program consists of plenaries, paper sessions and workshops. The composition of the keynote speakers reflects the interdisciplinary nature of the event and includes academic scholars, girl workers and artists.
We welcome paper proposals primarily from PhD students and researchers of Social Sciences, Humanities and Education who are working with a thesis/research project on girls, girlhood, youth and gender. The summer school offers a forum for developing methodological knowledge in respective studies of participants as well as co-creating ways to analyze different manifestations of girlhood in Nordic countries.
